India is all set to get its first high mobility multipurpose-wheeled vehicle or the Humvee, christened Mahindra Axe. Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) indian Humvee is ready to serve the Indian army’s and shortly for the civilian space too.
I recently watched it on CnB (NDTV), and since then I'm itching to get my hands on this, another mean machine from M&M. Let's check out what it claims to be.
An absolutely new platform is used for developing the Axe and it is developed to suit the Indian needs. Axe has been developed totally indigenously. The hulk gets its power from a healthy diesel powertrain, that initially will be imported but later M&M plans to strap its own engine into it. MUV will sport an on-the-fly 2WD/4WD switching system, with all independent suspension that M&M claims, will improve its ride in a tangled terrain. With no other bells and whistles, it is a no nonense vehicle.
With Axe's launch M&M has entered a much coveted market in India. The Nashik based powerhouse is also planning to launch its civilian avatar with many more goodies on the offer. But we will have to wait till 2009 to see it being priced anywhere between Rs. 12 lakh to 22 lakh and roughly that's the time frame when Hummer plans to enter India.
