German's answer to frugal engineering

Volkswagen [for newbies: pronounced "folkswagen"] is not going to be a people's car in India, though its name says it is. VW is all set to launch their first product in India, the Passat, a large family car. Passat is like to get tagged with a whopping 24 lakh sticker, which means it will directly compete with Mercedes C-class, Toyoto Camry and their own Skoda Superb family of cars.
